More Info on Coconut Oil
In this place we share a few things about coconut oil that just might make you happy. We won’t be getting into the technical stuff such as medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs) and lauric acid, but rather cut to what it actually does for our body.
Coconut oil and our heart—
Coconut oil is not a dietary villain that causes heart disease. Instead it may be one of the best things we can eat to help protect us from heart disease. Studies have shown that coconut oil has a neutral effect on blood cholesterol levels.
Coconut oil, bacteria and viruses—
The fatty acids in coconut oil are deadly to microorganisms that cause infection and illness. Research has shown they can kill bacteria and viruses that cause flu, herpes, bladder infections, gum disease, and many other conditions.
Coconut oil and candida—
Candida is a single-celled fungus or yeast cell that lives in the intestinal tract and mucous membranes of everyone. It can grow out of control and affect the entire body, in both men and women. You can have candidiasis (yeast infection) without even realizing it because there are so many different symtoms. There are components in coconut oil that are used to fight candida overgrowth. Eating coconut oil on a regular basis helps to keep candida and other harmful microorganisms at bay.
Coconut oil and metabolism—
The components in coconut oil do not circulate in the bloodstream like other fats but are sent directly to the liver, where they are converted to energy. Because of this the metabolism is elevated and remains so for at least 24 hours. This increases your energy level, helps protect you from illness, and speeds healing.
Coconut oil and our thyroid—
The thyroid controls the metabolism. Polyunsaturated vegetable oils depress thyroid activity, thus lowering the metabolic rate—just the opposite of coconut oil. Weight gain is a consequence of the lowered metabolic weight. Coconut oil, on the other hand, increases the metabolic rate for 24 hours. For some people coconut oil may be of little help. However, when used properly and in conjunction with other things it can have a very significant effect on the most common forms of hypothyroidism.
